Some of the last dinosaurs think that quality has no chance.

Thank you to Leica Camera AG for lending me the new 28mm Elmarit f/2,8asph. to test on the M8 during my last jurney through Morocco. The M8 with this new lens is really a cool compact combo, the lens is small and very light, even with the sun-protection there is no lens visible in the viewfinder. I had 4 weeks to work digital ;) , only in color though, digital b/w is nothing for me, too clean, no grain, no dirt….
I used the 28mm a lot outside on the street, inside I took my Elmarit 24mm f/2,8asph since with the wider lens there is much more information on the pictures.
I am very happy with the whole equipment. In some forums in the net people complained about the size of the M8: no problem at all, the M8 is just some “mm” bigger then the M6 or the MP. I read also about the “too loud shutter”; the shutter noise is a little louder then on the other M cameras, but not a problem at all.
the UV/IR issue is gone with the new firmware and the UV/IR cut filters, thanks again to Leica for sending the filters in such a short time!
the most important thing is the feeling… working with the M8 you have the M feeling, like I said before: no big black shoe box in front of your face. it is a camera you can carry with you everywhere.. I never did it with my canon 5D.
In the 4 weeks I had two minor problems with the camera/batteries:1. in the extreme heat of south Morocco the camera didn’t function at all 3 times, I had to take the battery out and put it in again, then everything was working normal again. 2. here in Spain and in northern Morocco the batteries worked perfectly, a full battery works from the morning until late night with the screen switched off. In the heat of south Morocco the batteries were already empty in the afternoon.
If you feel like you can follow “The King is coming today”. thank you, best Stefan
Edit: the aperture priority the M8 has, is a great thing!

Taxi in Marrakesch, after 4 weeks in Morocco.
I have to say the Leica M8 with the updated firmware is a great tool, no big black shoebox in front of your face, it’s the same feeling as with the other M cameras while photographing.
best, Stefan
